Environmental footprint

Deliberately light website. Each page is only a few tens of kilobytes, and nothing is loaded from another host apart from the spam check on the contact page.
The application is an ordinary web stack. PHP and MariaDB run on modest hardware, with no need for a large infrastructure.
Small models run on our own server. Where a task does not need a large model, it runs on ordinary processors on our own server rather than on graphics cards: the search behind your organisation's knowledge, and a local speech engine. Translation, and speech in some languages, use hosted services.
The real costs centre on the language model. We continually refine the application to save on compute power.
Less travel offsets impact. By offering an instant translation service, InMyWords can remove unnecessary travel to and from second appointments.
